The U.S. Department of Energy in cooperation with the International Conference of Building Officials has written a training program that explains and details the requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code.  CK-COG feels that this paves the foundation to provide an understanding of the energy code.  The code basics presented by this information can be applied to construction practices relevant to the new Uniform Construction Code.  Remember when applying the energy provisions of the code the contractor must select one set of regulations to build to from the three available codes.  The contractor can build to either the International Residential Code for One and Two Family Dwellings, the International Energy Conservation Code for dwelling units of three or more or he/she can build to the Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Code.  All three codes are based upon the information presented here.  Click on the link to take you to the Energy Departments training site.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view this site.  http://www.energycodes.gov/training/pdfs/iecc_res_wb.pdf (529K)
