The U.S. Department of Energy in cooperation with the International Conference of Building Officials has written a training program that explains and details the requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code.  CK-COG feels that this paves the foundation to provide an understanding of the energy code.  The code basics presented by this information can be applied to construction practices relevant to the new Uniform Construction Code.  Remember when applying the energy provisions of the code the contractor must select one set of regulations to build to from the three available codes.  The contractor can build to either the International Residential Code for One and Two Family Dwellings, the International Energy Conservation Code for dwelling units of three or more or he/she can build to the Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Code.  All three codes are based upon the information presented here.  Click on the link to take you to the Energy Departments training site.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view this site.  http://www.energycodes.gov/training/pdfs/iecc_res_wb.pdf (529K)

U.S. Department of Energy has developed a Power Point Presentation entitled "Residential Energy Code Compliance" IRC 2000 & IECC 2000/2001/2003 Editions.  Use this in conjunction with  the USDOE Energy Training Program or to view specific requirements of the energy code. Click on the link to take you to the presentation.   http://www.energycodes.gov/training/presentations/00_03_res__full_part1-4.ppt (4.85 Meg)

U.S. Department of Energy has developed a Power Point Presentation entitled "Inspecting for The Residential Energy Code"  Please note that there are permissible variations to this inspection criteria if building to the Pennsylvania Alternative Energy Residential Provisions.  Click on the link to take you to the presentation.   http://www.energycodes.gov/training/presentations/00_03_iecc_res_inspection_final.ppt (9.98 Meg)

The U.S. Department of Energy provides free software to perform energy calculations.  This software is available in both Windows and Mac formats. Click on the link to take you to the download site.   http://www.energycodes.gov/rescheck/download.stm

Please be patient, the USDOE Power Point presentations are rather large files.  They may take awhile to load depending on the speed of your internet connection
