Commercial Plans Examiner
The Central Keystone Council of Governments is currently accepting applications for an ICC/UCC Certified Commercial Plans Examiner to perform plan reviews of industrial, commercial buildings and structures in various stages of construction, repair and alteration. Plans examiners ensure that buildings are designed in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations, currently being enforced by the PA Uniform Construction Code/Act 45.
Required Duties: Review and approve all building plans and specifications to ensure they comply with the PA UCC/Act 45 building codes. Learn and apply specific code provisions, ordinances and regulations enforced by CK-COG. All other duties deemed necessary by the employer. Employee must be self-motivated and be able work unsupervised and stay on task.
Required Skills: The employee must be able to use basic office equipment, have a basic skill level with computers and be able to read and understand architectural and engineered plans. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with owners, builders and design professionals. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all.
Required Knowledge: Principles and techniques of building code compliance. General building code provisions including the ICC Building Code, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes, as well as accessibility codes. Construction trade principles, practices and procedures including carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and heating/air conditioning. Accepted safety standards and practices in building construction. Basic arithmetic.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand, sit, twist and reach for office equipment, intermittently walk, bend, climb, kneel, squat and lift and carry up to 50 pounds while conducting plan reviews and field inspections.
Experience and Education: Three years of journey level experience in building trades or building construction – OR – one year of experience as an PA/UCC or ICC Certified Building Plans Examiner with a third party or local governmental agency performing tasks as described. High school diploma or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional education is preferred but not required.
License or Certificate: Must possess the following PA/UCC certifications or be able to obtain within (12) months of hire date. Additional Certifications a plus.

Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
